13-year-old girl charged over alleged assault - Koonawarra

Police from the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command have charged a 13-year-old girl after a taxi driver was allegedly assaulted at Koonawarra.
The 45-year-old man has told police he collected four girls at Church Street, Wollongong, about 2pm (Tuesday 3 January 2012).
The man drove to Gilba Street, Koonawarra, where it is alleged the four girls attempted to run from the taxi without paying the fare.
When he tried to stop them it’s alleged one of the girls assaulted the man and cut him on the arm with a knife.
Police were called and spoke to the driver before arresting one of the girls nearby.
During a search of the girl police allegedly located an amount of cannabis.
The 13-year-old was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where she was charged with armed with intent to commit serious indictable offence; assault occasioning actual bodily harm; possess prohibited drug; and evade taxi fare.
She was conditionally bailed to appear at Port Kembla Children’s Court on 16 January 2012.
