The project has been down a rocky road, with council increasing the budget from $5 million to $8 million. Then there were calls to re-think the whole scheme amid claims the library extension was extravagant, and the auditorium ran the risk of being duplicated by the planned expansion of the Dunn and Lewis Entertainment Centre. Meeting at the centre late yesterday council's Policy, Resources and Reserves Committee decided to continue with the upgrade and will look at extending the scope of works. Overall cost of the project could rise to between $9 million and $10 million and Committee Chairman Cr Bob Proudfoot says he is hopeful of tenders being called by mid year. After more than three decades of servicing four wheel drives Wingecarribee Council has ordered the closure of an iconic southern highlands business, and even after providing the owners documentary proof to operate.
