Planning Starts To Salvage Callala Boats

callala boat seven Insurance assessors believe many of the boats washed ashore at Callala earlier this week will be salvageable, if cranes can get close to them.

Around a dozen boats were washed up on to the beach  or left high and dry on rocks  during a wild storm on Tuesday night, leaving a potential damage bill of more than $2 million.

 

 

callala boat nine Some of the boats have suffered further damage on the 2 metre king tide on Wednesday night , while a huge amount of seaweed has also been washed up on to the beach.

Insurance assessor Michael Lieberman from I.M.S. Marine Surveyors says the salvage operation could be quite tricky.

A Shoalhaven Church has raised a staggering $164,000 after passing the plate for a Sunday collection. Every year the Nowra City Church  in North Nowra runs an ' Imagine ' collection to raise funds for projects to help those less fortunate at both home and abroad.   The collection has been run for the last 12 years, during which time a total of $2.2 million has been raised. Blackspot Funds To Fix Highway Danger Spots

Two dangerous sections of the Illawarra Highway near Robertson are to be upgraded, following a $200,000 funding allocation from the Federal Government's blackspot program. Throsby MP Stephen Jones says half of the money will go towards the installation of a w-beam guardrail on a 1.5 kilometre section of the Illawarra Highway, south of Tourist Road.
