Planning Starts To Salvage Callala Boats

Insurance assessors believe many of the boats washed ashore at Callala earlier this week will be salvageable, if cranes can get close to them.

Around a dozen boats were washed up on to the beach or left high and dry on rocks during a wild storm on Tuesday night, leaving a potential damage bill of more than $2 million.

Some of the boats have suffered further damage on the 2 metre king tide on Wednesday night , while a huge amount of seaweed has also been washed up on to the beach.

Insurance assessor Michael Lieberman from I.M.S. Marine Surveyors says the salvage operation could be quite tricky.

Graham Watson who owns one of the boats, says the combined power of the wind and the waves was ferocious

Church Passes Plate Raises Amazing $164,000

A Shoalhaven Church has raised a staggering $164,000 after passing the plate for a Sunday collection. Every year the Nowra City Church in North Nowra runs an ' Imagine ' collection to raise funds for projects to help those less fortunate at both home and abroad. The collection has been run for the last 12 years, during which time a total of $2.2 million has been raised. Non Custodial Parents Stand For Throsby Election

The Non-Custodial Parents Party (Equal Parenting) has announced it will be contesting the federal seat of Throsby at the September 14 election. For the second time, Wayne Hartman will represent the party, after standing in Throsby during the 2010 election and receiving 1575 votes. Blackspot Funds To Fix Highway Danger Spots

Two dangerous sections of the Illawarra Highway near Robertson are to be upgraded, following a $200,000 funding allocation from the Federal Government's blackspot program. Throsby MP Stephen Jones says half of the money will go towards the installation of a w-beam guardrail on a 1.5 kilometre section of the Illawarra Highway, south of Tourist Road. The remaining $100,000 will be spent laying a high level non-skid road surface on two bends of the Illawarra Highway near Wilsons Road at Burrawang.
