Locals Recognised In Queens Birthday Honours List |

A host of people with local connections have been honoured in the 2012 Queens Birthday honours list which has been released this morning Awardees include Superintendent Des Organ, formerly with the Sussex Inlet and Nowra Police Stations, who now heads up the Hunter Valley Command based at Muswellbrook. South coast medical specialist Dr Phil Clinganhas been honoured for his contribution to cancer care, and Ruth Sims for her contribution to aboriginal education. Rex Worrell from Shoalhaven Heads has been recognised for his contribution to the shorebird recovery program over the last 20 years, while Ruth Richards from Ulladulla has been decorated for her service to the community, especially the Country Women's Association. Bendanlong's Peter Hudson has been honoured for his contribution to environmental causes. Four naval personnel with local connections have been named, Lt Cdr Clifford Kyle who helped achieve a 23% increase in flying hours for the Sea Hawk helicopters, and Warrant Officer Anthony Wills from 817 squadron for his work with the now de-commissioned Sea King Helicopters . Warrant Officer Debbie Butterworth has been singled out for her work in logistics management, and Lt Cdr Barry Ford for his work during the anti ship missile defence upgrade on HMAS Perth. Highlands awardees include Bowral businessman Tony Springett for his contribution to business, and charities like the KKKK. Alan Hayes has been recognised for his contribution to the social sciences and family studies, and John Anysley of Moss Vale for his contribution to the Uniting Church. Carlolyn Lieutenant from Bowral has been decorated for her service to sport, and Stephen Dickman of Mittagong for his work in helping veterans. Ann Hoy Moss Vale has picked up an award for community service and Leilani Watson from Tahmoor for development of employment opportunities for aboriginal people. Also honoured Richard Ruhfus from Bowral's Empire Cinema for his contribution to community through the visual arts and charitable organisations |

Painstaking Asbestos Clean Up In The Jervis Bay National Par…
Shoalhaven Council has removed more than three and a half tonnes of illegally dumped asbestos within a heritage estate in Jervis Bay. The material had been dumped across private lots in Worrowing Heights. The lots were recently acquired for addition to the Jervis Bay National Park. Asbestos was also found along a walking track within the undeveloped Birriga Ave Road reserve spanning one and a half hectares. Wingecarribee Water Prices Rise, Residents Not Happy
Residents across the Wingecarribee who have been experiencing considerably increased water charges have raised there concerns with Council. Council has put the increases down to warmer weather conditions, new water metres being installed across the shire and the rare possibility of water leaks. Heat wave conditions were experienced in the Highlands throughout January, when compared to the previous three years the past summer was hotter and dryer, leading to a spike in water consumption across the shire. Shoalhaven Crime Prevention Day On Tomorrow
In a bid to reduce crime levels in the Shoalhaven Council and Police will be hosting a home safety community event tomorrow. Its the eighth home safety event run in the past 18 months providing residents with the opportunity to have security engraving done on valuables and receive information from police and the crime prevention van. There'll be activities on the day for families including music, spray on tattoos and a sausage sizzle Council has received more than $30,000 in funding to assist the Shoalhaven implement a crime action plan.
