Highway Wins – Bay Basin Police Station Loses In Budget

Tuesday, 12 June 2012 23:45

princes highway kiama bends The state government has committed more funds for infrastructure projects on the south coast in yesterday's (tue) budget, including $187 million for upgrades to the Princes Highway.

There's an additional $28 million for the South Nowra duplication, $90 million to start the Gerringong upgrade between Mount Pleasant and Toolijooa Road and a million dollars to continue planning the realignment at Termeil Creek.

Kiama MP Gareth Ward says it will create jobs and boost the local economy.

Shoalhaven River By Lauren Allen There is no money in the budget to investigate the site for the construction of a third crossing of the Shoalhaven River at Nowra.

There is also no funding for the construction of a new 24/7 police station in the Bay and Basin, with Police Minister Mike Gallacher saying last week around the clock mobile patrols may be better than a new bricks and mortar headquarters.

Up to ten-thousand public service jobs being axed across the state and more than a billion dollars being cut from yet-to-be-specified government-programs, over four years.

However, Member for South Coast, Shelley Hancock says this will not affect frontline positions such as police, teachers and nurses and will have a minimal impact on the region
