Rescue Groups Snared In State Cash Grab

shoalhaven marine rescue A Shoalhaven Councillor has lashed out at the state government over moves to charge struggling community groups, which provide life saving rescue services,  more than $400 a year to use crown land.

Several of the Shoalhaven's Marine Rescue groups including  operations at Crookhaven Heads, Huskisson, and Kiola will have to pay the charge.

 

colin woods While collected  by council the city says it is imposing  the fee following a directive by the state government, and Cr Greg Watson believes it will cause hardship for organisations which are already struggling

Federal Member for Hume ALBY SCHULTZ has rubbished claims he's planning a taxpayer funded overseas study tour before he retires in September. Saving Four Bowral Trees To Cost Almost Half Million Dollars

A Wingecarribee Councillor believes four limited life trees in Merrigang Street Bowral will end up costing the community close to half a million dollars. Council has postponed work on the upgrade of Merrigang Street until October after residents protested at plans to cut down the trees, which councillor Ian Sandrett believes probably only have a life of ten years at best. Overnight council rejected moves to re-start work immediately, and cut down the trees in question. Greens Say Forget Nowra Car Park – We Have Better Idea

The Greens have condemned Shoalhaven Council plans to seek state government funding for a multi level car park in Nowra, and instead believe there should be  medium density housing and a health precinct near the hospital. Following the lease of the Port Kembla wharves to the private sector,  the state has set aside $100 million for job generating projects on the south coast and southern highlands.
