Shoalhaven Rates Rise But Roads To Benefit

braidwood road three Shoalhaven Council has released details of its new budget for next financial year, and while rates will rise, significant extra funding is being allocated for road improvements.

Rates will rise by 3.6%, which is the maximum allowable under the state government's rate pegging legislation.

Mayoral candidate and soon to retire Gilmore MP Jo Gash has already signalled she believes the condition of the region's roads,  will be the biggest issue at the local government elections in September.

 

Culb Rd prime seal1 2-5-12 Council has allocated an extra million dollars in road re-newal funding and $2 5 million for local road re-sealing projects.

A new breakdown of unemployment figures shows the jobless rate in Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee is now around  double that of the next worst effected area in New South Wales. The numbers have been crunched  by the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee have jobless figures of almost 12%, with pockets of more than 13%, and a youth unemployment rate of 21%. Rural Volunteer Killed In Country Crash

A Nowra man has been killed in a crash on the southern tablelands. The 41 year old man, whose name is yet to be released, lost control of a Toyota Hi Lux ute on the Childowla Road at Bookham near Yass. Police say the vehicle rolled down an embankment, with the body of the driver found by a passing motorist. It is believed the man had been in the Bookham area working as part of the Blazeaid team, helping local farmers after the fires of earlier this year. He then stayed on in the region... Read more
