Suicide Rates Could Be 30% Higher Than Official Figures

The Salvation Army says it is becoming increasingly concerned at the alarming rate of suicide in the region.

New figures show that nationally each and every day an average of 7 people take their own lives, and  another 178 make an attempt.

The Salvos believe the hidden cost could be as high as 17 billion a year, while suicide deaths impact on the lives of up to 200,000 people in some way, each year.

National Co-Ordinator from The Salvation Army Stephanie Wilks says the biggest concern is the death rate could be as much as 30%  higher than what official figures show

Some People Will Steal Anything

Police are searching for thieves who think they can make a dollar out of un-suspecting animal owners after a raid on a South Nowra pet store. The bandits have broken into the store on the Princes Highway and stolen a large quantity of flea treatment. Forensic police have collected evidence from the crime scene, and investigators would like to hear from anyone being offered cheap packets of flea treatment formula. Read more

Light Fingered Woman Has Expensive Tastes

A 42 year old Sydney woman with expensive tastes has been arrested by an off duty police officer after a raid on Stockland Nowra. Police allege the woman took two designer hand bags without paying for them on Saturday. The woman was detained and taken back to her car, where police found other items suspected of having been stolen. Police say the woman was also wanted over the theft of several bottles of spirits from a liquor store at Rozelle , in Sdney's inner west. She has been granted bail to appear in Nowra Local Court on July 1. Read more

A man found out the hard way this morning that you do not go around a police car with its flashing warning lights activated....he has returned a breath reading of more than twice the limit. About 2.15  police were stopped in Pirralea Street Ulladulla, where a tree had fallen on the road.
