M.P Says Forget Overseas – Holiday Local, Spend Local

bob baldwin r jo gash l The Federal Coalition has launched a campaign encouraging Australians to holiday at home in areas like the Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee, instead of taking vacations overseas.

Shadow Minister For Regional Development and Tourism BOB BALDWIN has been outlining the promotion during a visit the SHOALHAVEN  in company with Gilmore MP Jo Gash.

 

 

sunrise The Shoalhaven is the number one regional tourist destination in New South Wales, and combined with Wingecarribee,  has well in excess of a million day trip visitors per annum.

MR BALDWIN says the coalition has to work with tourism operators to make the coast and highlands an attractive alternative to going overseas

More Federal Funds Available For Council Projects

Wingecarribee Council will get another chance to apply for federal infrastructure funding with the commonwealth adding an extra $150 million to the scheme. Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese says the funding will be provided under the government's regional development Australia Fund and Livable Cities programs. The funding can only be used to build and renew community infrastructure such as sporting facilities, libraries, town halls, playgrounds and essential services like childcare centres. However, to secure the new federal funding, councils must apply under the relevant program by July 22. Read more

Planning Underway To Upgrade Bowral Hospital

While the southern highlands missed out on any major capital works funding in this week's state budget, Goulburn MP Pru Goward says the Bowral Hospital could be a big winner next financial year. Most of the funds allocated to Ms Goward's electorate will be spent on projects around Goulburn including a bridge over Oallen Ford near Nerriga and replacement of the Lansdowne bridge. But Ms Goward says the highlands may fare better in the next budget as she is negotiating with the Local Area Health Board for a major upgrade of Bowral Hospital. Read more

Quinns Lane Work Completed For Now

Shoalhaven Council has completed resealing of a 300 metre section of Quinns Lane at South Nowra. Most of the work was completed at night and timed to align with progress on the Princes Highway upgrade to minimise disruptions to local businesses and residents in the area. Mayor Jo Gash says there is still some minor work to be done on Quinns Lane in the coming days including the installation of signs, footpath restoration and line marking but the road will remain open to traffic.
