Spate Of Fires Prompts Official Warning

greenwelll point road fire man on wall Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee  fire authorities are once again warning householders to be vigilant when using heaters and cooking appliances following a spate of structural fires over the last fortnight.

Fire crews have been busy attending more than a dozen fires around Nowra, North Nowra, Milton, the Bay and Basin area and Wingello.

 

greenwell point road fire glow The latest fire occurred yesterday (wed) morning at a home at the north eastern corner of  Millbank and Greenwell Point Roads at Worrigee.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, and one was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for observation.

The house suffered significant structural damage and depending upon the outcome of specialist inspections may  have to be demolished.

Locals Not Happy At Having To Change Trains

Leaked draft timetables affecting the Southern Highlands train line show there will be fewer express services through to Sydney. While services in general will increase but commuters will need to change at  Campbelltown or Macarthur to reach Sydney. Member for Goulburn Pru Goward  says she's compiling a list of concerns people and the information will be passed on to Minister for Transport Glady Berejiklian. Man Who Strangled Mother To Death Jailed For Four Years

A Goulburn man who strangled his 74 year old mother to death has been jailed for a minimum of  four years. 48 year old Terrance Kain has been acquitted of the murder of his mother, but found guilty of her manslaughter. The Supreme Court has been told back in February of 2011 Kain strangled his mother in the Goulburn home he shared with her for many years. Delays On Hume As Work Starts To Repair Truck Fire Damage

Work commences today to replace sections of pavement on the Hume Highway near Berrima  which were damaged as a result of a truck fire earlier this month. The fire erupted in a B double carrying a load of plastic produce bins on May 1. Roads and Maritime Services says the blaze was so intense it severely damaged the concrete pavement, forcing the implementation of reduce speed limits in the area. Twelve slabs have to be replaced in the south bound lanes. During daylight hours from today through until Wednesday week June 5,  the south bound lanes will be closed and traffic diverted on...
