Locals Lashed In Power Price Hike

high voltage power lines There are fears an increasing number of families on the southern highlands    will go cold this winter, following the 18-per cent  rise in power prices.

The state government's independent pricing regulator has  announced the latest  power price hike , with charities concerned for the  welfare of the vulnerable.

wood fire. jpg While some locals have access to free firewood, many face the prospect of either having to cut costs in other areas to fund the power price increase, or going to bed early to escape the cold.

A P plater has been arrested and charged after being pulled over for doing more than 200 KPH on the Hume Highway. A Mittagong Highway Patrol officer clocked the  red Volkswagen Golf  at 204 KPH in a 110 zone just after midnight yesterday. Not only was the driver's licence suspended on the spot, but the number plates were confiscated from the  vehicle as well. The man has been ordered to appear in Moss Vale Local Court on July 18. Energy Update – Electricity Prices Stabilise – Gas Soars

We're being spared any large increases in electricity prices next month, but the state's pricing regulator has approved a 9% jump in gas charges, and things will only get worse The average increase in electricity charges from next month will be 1.7%. Moves To Reduce Gun Shot Noise At Shooting Range

Wingecarribee Council has approved a series of measures to reduce the noise of firearms at the Southern Highlands Regional Shooting complex at Hilltop.     The state government is proposing to place six shipping containers around the 800 metre rifle range to act as a noise reduction barrier. Previous testing of noise levels from the range found they were above the maximum 75 decibels stipulated in the conditions of consent for the development.
