Huge Squid Found Off Jervis Bay

giant squid Photo Al Mc Glashan Daily Telegraph A giant squid has been found floating off the south coast, beyond the edge of the continental shelf.

About 3 metres long, the ruby red coloured squid has been discovered  floating by Daily Telegraph fishing columnist Al McGlashan, about 50KM off Jervis Bay.

Mr McGlashan says the squad appears to have been involved in a fight to the death with its only known predator, a sperm whale, as evidenced by the fact most of its tentacles had been bitten off.

The squid has then floated up to the surface, where it has  become a ready source of food for a  2.5 metre blue shark.

Giant squid have been known to grow up to 13 metres long, but do not  get too excited about a big feed of calamari, they reek of ammonia, and taste about as good as a mouth full of ammonia.
