Woman Chains Herself To Tree If Chainsaws Move In

junction mall tree Plans to remove what has been described as an iconic  tree from Nowra's Junction Court Mall have hit a hurdle, with a woman threatening to climb and chain herself to the monster  gum, as the chainsaws move in.

The stately eucalypt is located beside the NAB Bank, and is due to come down tomorrow morning, ahead of a start to the re-development of the mall, and returning the area to one way east bound traffic.

Locals Christine Nolan and Ronnie Ardler says the gum is known as the " Tree of Knowledge " and has aboriginal significance.

Ms Nolan  says she wont give up without a fight, and if council wants to build around it " that is fine ", but is demanding the tree stay.

The NAB also wants the tree gone saying the roots and limbs have been damaging its building.
