help needed

Let’s hope in tonight’s budget we see something done for the construction industry as well as some good news for domestic property investors as the rental crisis deepens and, kick along the housing industry. In the Shoalhaven when the building industry is going well the flow on effect is enormous. Yesterday, the Commonwealth Bank announced its dumping staff at its Melbourne mortgage service operations. Up until last week’s falls in interest rates, building approvals rose just 7.4% which was not enough to erase previous falls.

Job ads and business confidence id down. Economists are hoping that last week’s interest rate cut will turn things around and so would some stimulus in tonight’s budget. Let’s hope so.

Justice For Thomas Kelly… You’re Joking

You know there’s something wrong with our justice system and my heart goes out to the family of teenager Thomas Kelly who was killed by a brutal king hit in Kings Cross last year. Kieran Loveridge, 19, was charged with the king hit of Mr Kelly during a night out in Kings Cross in July last year. Central Local Court was told this morning the charge of murder had been withdrawn in place of the guilty plea to manslaughter. The family were left shaken. Thomas’s mother said outside the court: "It’s time we all come... Read more

What’s Happening To Their Childhood?

We have all seen it. Kids scanning their computers and phones for messages from their friends or downloading the latest game. At last child development experts are calling on parents to monitor their children’s exposure to technology due to an increasing decline in handwriting skills, putting children at risk of lagging behind in achieving key developmental and educational milestones. Ms Sonja Walker, director of Kids First Children’s Services, said that devices such as computer keyboards and smart phones mean that children are growing up without the strength and stamina to hold a pen for the required period of... Electricity How Much Will Your Bill Increase?

Electricity How Much Will Your Bill Increase?

The last 18 months have been rough on people living on fixed incomes and families struggling to make ends meet. It’s timely that householders can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to their power bills after the NSW pricing regulator set an average increase in electricity prices of only 1.7%. This means bills could jump by as little as $17 next month, while the most people can expect to pay is an extra $63. The ruling follows years of soaring power prices that saw some families saddled with an 80% increase in their bills over a... Read more
