Here We Go Another Scam

scam alert

Our seniors are once again being targeted by scammers posing as government officials promising carbon tax compensation and asking for their personal details. As reported in the Daily Telegraph, Department of Veterans' Affairs chief Ian Campbell said his department had been alerted by a number of veterans who had been asked for personal information so they could receive the payments. In some cases the "cowardly" scammers said they were from Veterans Affairs.
""There is no need for veterans to be asked for personal information, such as banking details, over the phone in order to receive their household assistance from the government."
Mr Campbell said anyone who encounters a suspected scammer should contact the DVA on 133 254 or 1800 555 254.

Electricity How Much Will Your Bill Increase?

Electricity How Much Will Your Bill Increase?

The last 18 months have been rough on people living on fixed incomes and families struggling to make ends meet. It’s timely that householders can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to their power bills after the NSW pricing regulator set an average increase in electricity prices of only 1.7%. This means bills could jump by as little as $17 next month, while the most people can expect to pay is an extra $63. The ruling follows years of soaring power prices that saw some families saddled with an 80% increase in their bills over a... Read more

Is 18 Too Young To Drink?

Is 18 Too Young To Drink?

There's a growing push to increase the drinking age to 21. At a national forum academics and medicos are urging Federal MP's to encourage states to make the change, tying the issue to road-funding. Professor John Toomberoo from Deakin University's says Australian teenagers are twice as likely to abuse alcohol as teens in the US, where the legal age in the US is 21. I can already hear the cries of protest saying that at 18 they can vote, they can legally drive a car and fight for our country. To curb alcohol the... Read more

More Strife for the NRL

TV audiences are down with the exception of State of Origin. Is it because of the standard of play or is the public sick and tired of all the bad headlines. Earlier this year we have Josh Duggan and Blake Ferguson sitting on a roof in Canberra downing grog. Now over the past couple of weeks: Paul Gallen punching Nate Miles in the State of Origin James Tamou caught driving without a licence and four times over the limit NSW winger Blake Ferguson stood down from Origin II and suspended from playing after he was charged with...
