Safe driving campaigners say the willingness of Australians to drink

drive is worrying and unacceptable.

A new study has found 58 percent of Australians admit to drink driving

and only being caught will deter them.

The study suggests expensive ad campaigns make little difference to

driver behaviour but breath tests help lower the toll considerably.

John Thompson, Senior Manager, Road Safety and Marketing at the

TAC says up to $20 million dollars is spent per year on educating drivers

on the road toll message.

John went on to say around four million breath tests were conducted

last year but defended ad campaigns as a necessary part of combating

drink driving.

However, in the survey 84% of drivers admitted they probably drove

over the limit at some point in the past year.

Is it time to curb the advertising and employ more police for Random breath tests?

Age Is Just A Number

Age Is Just A Number

Is turning 40 time for a meltdown or cause for celebration? The answer, apparently, depends on your gender. New research shows, twice as many men as women are likely to experience a midlife crisis when they turn 40. The panic attack comes despite 69 per cent of Australians in the age group claiming that they don't look their age. Another 57 per cent, who were surveyed nationwide by Newspoll for the DVD launch of the comedy This Is 40, said they did not feel any different from their 30s. Psychologist Meredith Fuller believes career stress, retrenchments and... Read more

Drug Testing Kids

Drug Testing Kids

There’s no doubt kids have drugs thrust upon them now much more than when I was growing up. We can educate our kids on the dangers of drugs but some times peer pressure makes it hard for kids to say no. The problem is how do we know our kids are on drugs? You can look at their mood swings, check their eyes, watch their diet. It’s difficult. If you are sure that they are taking drugs what do you do about it? Would you believe them if they said they were not using drugs? If you... Read more

Don’t Be Fooled, Light Beer Can Put You Over The Limit

Don’t Be Fooled, Light Beer Can Put You Over The Limit

Can light beer put you over .05? Geoff Munro, Head of Policy at the Australian Drug Foundation says that there is no universal rule on the number of drinks any person can have before they are tipped over the limit and that includes light beer. “Light beer is classified as 2.8% and that’s right, and that represents about three quarters of a standard drink and if a person drinks several of those in a short time I’m sure they could get over .05l. In the past, authorities have given theories as to how many drinks a person... Read more
