“Droptober” Loose Weight for Charity

obesity

Sydney based Michael Jarosky (CPA, MBA - Economics) is a former chubby strategy/financial consultant turned personal trainer and is the author of weight loss book 40 Days as a City Caveman, monthly contributor to UltraFit magazine, and a health and fitness writer for Fairfax’s Executive Style. As an American he is passionate about reversing the obesity epidemic in Australia and New Zealand.

Obesity costs Australians $56 billion per year…it’s time to do something about it! Australians and Kiwis looking to shed a few kilos before summer can now do so - for charity.

The campaign encourages members to lose at least 2kgs during the month of October and individually raise money from their friends, family, and colleagues. Funds donated will go directly to the participants’ choice of children’s charity Variety, Guide Dogs Australia, or Kids for Life.

Michael Jarosky tells us how “Droptober” will work.

Can We Afford a Further 2.5% in GST?

You know a number of us are doing in tough. Ever had to go without a meal to ensure the kids are fed? More than a quarter also go without a substantial meal each day to ensure their children are fed. The salvos need your help to feed the... Read more

Back To Basics At School

Back To Basics At School

Over the weekend I spoke to a few teachers who said that teaching basics like maths is being sidelined by too many other issues. For example, one teacher claimed he was expected to be a pseudo parent, psychologist and counsellor as well as trying to actually teach! While another said that time devoted to new subjects like environmentalism and indigenous history left too few hours in the week to teach the basics like grammar and mathematics. And to top it off, the Federal Senate Education, Employment & Workplace Relations Committee reported that many educators struggle to teach English... Read more

Women Doing Men’s Job

Women Doing Men’s Job

You know I have no problems for women being paid the same amount as men for doing what’s has been termed over the years as a man’s job. If they can do the job and do it efficiently as a man then pay them accordingly. In fact I have a daughter who wants to be a dump truck driver in the mines and is saving up to learn the job. What is happening, however, is that the types of occupations women traditionally gravitate towards are less well paid. For example, women are heavily over represented in areas like... Read more
