Sir Douglas Quintet - Medocinno |
| Thursday, 26 April 2012 19:31 |
|
Sir Douglas Quintet was a rock band active in the mid-1960s and early 1970s. Despite their British-sounding name, they came out of San Antonio, Texas. With their first hits, they were acclaimed in their home state. However, once their career was established (subsequent to working with Texas record-producer Huey Meaux), the band relocated to the West Coast. Their move coincided with the burgeoning San Francisco rock scene of the mid-1960s to early 1970s. Overall, the Quintet were exponents of good-times music with strong roots in blues and Texas-regional traditions. Look for a very young Hugh Hefner in the clip and maybe a very young, the Reverend Jesse Jackson shaking his booty. There’s also an endless supply of Playmate bunnies bopping along, who would now be in their late 60’s early 70’s. This was there biggest hit, here in Australia. "Shake a Tail Feather" (Otha Hayes, Verlie Rice, and Andre Williams) is a song originally recorded in 1963 by the Chicago-based group The Five Du-Tones. "Shake a Tail Feather" has been covered by many other artists over the years, perhaps most notably by Ray Charles, who performed the song during his scenes in the 1980 film The Blues Brothers. This version of the song includes calls for various 1960s dances, including the Twist, the Monkey, The Frug and The Mashed Potato, to be performed by a crowd gathered outside Ray's Music Exchange. {youtube}/qdbrIrFxas0{/youtube} Read more
