Quaterflash- Harden My Heart

Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:12

"Harden My Heart" is the most popular single by the American rock group Quarterflash, off their Quarterflash album, released in 1981.

Quarterflash took its name from an Australian slogan: "a quarter flash and three parts foolish."

Released the same year MTV went on the air, the video contains many random images that have nothing to do with the song, including jugglers, a little person, a makeup table in the dessert, well-dressed guys on motorcycles, and a sax solo in the rain. It was fairly common in the early '80s to throw lots of disjointed scenes into the videos in an attempt to create a memorable image.

The song was originally released as a single in early 1980 by Seafood Mama, Quarterflash's predecessor band. It featured more sparse instrumentation but a more dramatic vocal arrangement than the hit version and was a regional success on radio stations in Portland, Oregon. The record's video features theatrics in and around an office trailer with dark corridors and swinging light bulbs from the ceiling before it was bulldozed and torched.

After changing their name, Quarterflash released their self-titled debut album in 1981 which contained the new version of "Harden My Heart".

The song is used in the 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer, which is set in 1981

John and Yoko Bed In

John and Yoko Bed In

During the Vietnam War, in 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono held two week-long Bed-Ins for Peace in Amsterdam and Montreal, which were their non-violent ways of protesting wars and promoting peace. The idea is derived from a "sit-in", in which a group of protesters remains seated in front of an establishment until they are evicted, arrested, or their demands are met. The public proceedings were filmed, and later turned into a documentary movie. The film Bed Peace was made available for free on YouTube in August 2011 by Yoko Ono, as part of her website "Imagine...
