Morons shouldn’t have motorcycles

Sunday, 19 February 2012 19:30

motorbikes

Travelling Picton Road yesterday and a near miss got my blood boiling.

Coming past Wilton, just under the newly installed ‘safety cameras’, I nearly collected a motorcyle rider, travelling on the wrong side of the road, overtaking someone who dared to be in their pretentious way. Dressed to the nines in bright yellow motorcyle gear, this man or woman nearly splattered my windscreen through sheet stupidity.

The dimwit in question was overtaking on double white lines, on a blind bed.

Has this ever happened to you? Comment below

Only a few years ago, this campaign was released by the Motorcycle Council of NSW

Well, if getting noticed is riding in front of us, job done.

I don’t know how many times I’ve been in city traffic where a motorcycle rider creeps between cars to gain benefit at traffic lights. Or when I’ve been travelling on a country road to have three or four motorcycles all at once overtake at ludicrous speeds trying to race to the end of a section of road.

This is not a message for the riders following the rules, just like riders targeting car drivers who fail to help them. This is a message for the pretentious morons with a $200,000 Ducati and a ‘freedom’ wish. Here’s the stats for motorcyle deaths in 2010.

  • 94% were male,
  • 53% occurred in rural Victoria,
  • 57% were involved in crashes between the hours of 10am and 6pm,
  • 39% of deaths occurred on roads sign posted at 100km/h or more.
  • 39% were involved in single vehicle crashes,
  • 16% were involved in same direction crashes
  • 18% were involved in crashes with another vehicle at an intersection

If I’m following the rules, pay me the same courtesy. I’d like to finish my trip without incident. Funnily enough, I think you do too.

A snapshot of what we look like at your fingertips

It may just be the nerd in me, but I love statistics. OK, so its only the nerd in me. But does it bother you when people rattle off the wrong stats about your town to you? Like ‘no-one young lives here’, all you see is people with kids etc. Well the Australian Bureau of Statistics has recently developed a site for you to get a snapshot of your local village or town. How much you earn on average, the kids and more Let’s take my suburb… There’s more women than men and it’s a young... Read more
