Fools rush in. Yumi and Negus’s regrettable moment

Wednesday, 29 February 2012 19:47

circle Not for one second can I condone the stupidity of Yumi Stynes comments on ‘The Circle’ this week regarding Victorian Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith. For the man’s courage and valour, he deserves our respect for an eternity. Although Yumi’s comments were stupid and idiotic, I accept she was not attacking Ben’s courage or his honour for this country.

But that doesn’t excuse the disrespect she showed the audience, her colleagues and people like Ben.

A TV show like ‘The Circle’ has won it’s praise through it’s honest personalities and ‘real people’ hosting the show. In it’s original year, one of their hosts Chrissie Swan was nominated for the Gold Logie, a proud accomplishment of this low rating morning show. The audience showed loyalty to her and wanted her to be rewarded for keeping them entertained.

Chrissie herself has been the subject of judgement. When she was on reality TV show ‘Big Brother’ she overheard unflattering remarks from a cameraman behind the wall of the compound.

My point is, Yumi and Negus should know better to judge a book by it’s cover. Ben Roberts-Smith is a a fit, healthy man. His profession demands it. To make such vile judgement’s that he was ‘brainless’ and ‘a dud in bed’ is as hurtful as any person judged on their looks. First perceptions last, but sadly for those that had never heard of ‘The Circle’ before today, these perceptions may last longer. They may have hurt the show more than their career.

How much you earn on average, the kids and more Let’s take my suburb… There’s more women than men and it’s a young... Read more
