The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962 and one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music The group's earliest line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar, vocals), Bill Wyman (bassist) and Charlie Watts (drummer).

Since 1993, the band has consisted of Jagger, Richards, Watts and guitarist Ronnie Wood. In studio and live performances, Darryl Jones (bassist) and Chuck Leavell (keyboardist) also serve as a regular contributors.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, the Rock Hall states; "critical acclaim and popular consensus has accorded them the title of the “World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band They were ranked number 4 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and their worldwide sales are estimated at more than 200 million albums

Silent Protest

Well forget these protesters where everyone goes crazy, running around shouting out slogans, over in Turkey they’ve devised a more peaceful way of protesting. It’s just to stand there in silence silent. The standing protest by performance artist Erdem Gunduz has been taken up by hundreds of anti-government demonstrators and spread to several Turkish cities. Mr Gunduz appeared in Istanbul's Taksim Square at around 18:00 on Monday and remained there until 02:00 when police moved in. His protest quickly captured the imagination of the protest movement.
