The Climate Council is warning that local households and businesses are likely to be hit by higher power prices if the energy grid becomes increasingly reliant on gas.

A new report by the Council also shows it will do little to stop pollution and urges Australia to move away from all fossil fuels towards renewable energy.

Climate Councillor and former BP President, Greg Bourne, says gas isn't as cheap or as clean as some people think, with wind and solar power offering far greater potential.
