Man charged over alleged explosions

A man has been charged following an investigation into reports of numerous alleged explosions being heard in the Thirlmere area.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command were made aware of reports from Wollondilly Council that explosions have been heard in the Thirlmere area over the past few months.

About 8.25pm on Thursday (7 August 2025), police were called to Estonian Street, Thirlmere, following reports of an explosion.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command attended and were told a large explosion had been heard.

Police commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a property on Estonian Road, Thirlmere, about 4.20pm yesterday (Friday 8 August 2025), with assistance from officers attached to the Tactical Operations Unit.

Police located and seized a number of items from the property including two gel blasters, two stun devices, two knives, a slingshot, a cannister of OC spray, a blow dart gun and a tablet, believed to methamphetamine.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Narellan Police Station, where he was charged with one count of possess, supply or make explosive for unlawful purpose.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Picton Local Court on Thursday 14 August 2025.
