Bring back the Sallyman

Federal Member for Hume and Shadow Minister for Defence Angus Taylor has raised serious concerns about the Albanese Government’s decision to cut funding from the Salvation Army’s “Sallyman” program.

The Sallyman and Sallyma’ams have provided Australian troops with comfort, care, and Christian chaplaincy for more than 125 years, during conflict and peace time on bases around the country.

Part of their presence would include providing a hot cuppa, and a sympathetic ear.

Mr. Taylor said it’s incredibly disappointing the government doesn’t recognise the importance of the program.

“The defence budget is more than $50 billion dollars per year and the Sallyman program costs $1.5 million dollars to run.

“It’s not like it’s about the money.

“Our priorities need to be focused on our defence personnel who are working hard every day to keep us safe.

“Cutting the Sallyman program is not the answer, “Mr. Taylor said.
