South Coast Police District met with local Nowra CBD Business owners through the Business Chamber, together with Shoalhaven Council representatives including Councillors and Mayor Patricia WHITE to discuss crime and anti-social behaviour through the Nowra CBD.
The meeting allowed for South Coast Police, the Mayor, Council and the Business Chamber Team to speak to efforts being undertaken to address the issue.
Concerningly, we heard from several business owners around intimidating behaviour from people within the CBD, alcohol and drug use, fights and alike occurring in the area.
There are works in place from several points including Council with CCTV, highlighting means to report issues to police more easily, lighting and other environmental changes, increasing the presence of shoppers and community back to the CBD with review of red tape in managing markets stalls and alike, and also the increased public safety with not only police patrols but other local emergency services meeting to not only connect with our partner agencies but to also local community.
