This year’s Wingecarribee Australia Day Ambassador is cook, author and culinary educator, Kumar Pereira.
After a successful international career in graphic design, Kumar reinvented himself
at 62 on MasterChef Australia and later MasterChef All-Stars, launching a new career
teaching cooking classes, hosting demonstrations and leading Sri Lankan food tours.
His hand-illustrated Kumar’s Family Cookbook showcases Sri Lankan heritage and global
flavours, and he now creates recipes for Hearing Matters Australia.

A committed community advocate, Kumar has served as an ambassador for Sydney social enterprise Beehive Industries and has taught seniors to cook nutritious meals.
