Stolen war medals returned

Sometimes the best policing outcomes aren’t measured by arrests. Instead they’re measured in bringing a piece of someone’s family history home.

Following the recovery of a collection of military medals from a Bevendale address, Police shared an appeal on the Hume Police District Facebook page in the hope someone might recognise them.

That post reached Major Darryl Johnson and Colonel Glyn Llanwarne, who generously shared their knowledge of the medals and the service of their recipients. Their expertise provided the missing pieces of the puzzle.

Using that information, Constable James from Yass was able to track down potential family members through historical records, and make a few phone calls, ultimately locating the rightful owners.

These medals represent more than military service. They tell stories of sacrifice, courage and family legacy. It was a privilege to help return them to where they belong.
