Shoalhaven Mayor Patricia White and Clr Karlee Dunn formally announced their resignation from the Shoalhaven Independent Group (Party), effective immediately.
In a statement, Mayor White said, “This decision has not been made lightly. However, it has become increasingly clear over recent months/years that the internal culture of the Group/Party, marked by persistent bullying and intimidation tactics, and toxic behaviours is incompatible with the values of integrity, respect, and service that we owe to the people of Shoalhaven.
“In my opinion these tactics, by several Councillors and outside party influences connected to the Group, are aimed at silencing dissent and exerting control, stand in direct opposition to the collaborative spirit required to govern effectively.
“Throughout my recent health challenges and ongoing cancer treatment, I have been subjected to many rumours, lies, intimidation bullying etc, this is not the first time and I am not the first or only Councillor to receive this treatment,” Councillor White said.
“This has been a reminder of what truly matters: prioritising the needs of residents above all else.
“At a time when our community faces significant challenges, our focus must be on unity, transparency, and actionable solutions.
The community expects us to put aside personal agendas and political narratives to work together as a team, focused
exclusively on fixing the issues that impact Shoalhaven such as roads and rates.
She said, “In my opinion, the current environment within the Group/Party prevents us from fulfilling that primary obligation to our residents. By stepping away from these internal conflicts, we are reclaiming our ability to represent the people of Shoalhaven as Independents, without the distraction of coercive influence by several Councillors and outside party influences, I believe.
