Kiama Municipal Council is lending a hand to a range of local community groups and events with the recipients announced for the 2026/27 Grants, Donations and Sponsorships Program.
Mayor Cameron McDonald said Council values the contribution of community groups, artists, event organisers and businesses who contribute to the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of the area.
Council’s Grants, Donations and Sponsorships Program provides financial and in-kind support for initiatives that strengthen community connections, enhance cultural vibrancy, support local organisations and contribute to the visitor economy.
The funding round is made up of three streams:Community Grants, Destination Event Funding and Community Donations (Small Grants).
A total of 17 recipients, who will receive a share of $85,000, were endorsed at Council’s October Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday night.
“I congratulate all the community groups and events that were successful in securing grants and destination event funding,” Mayor McDonald said.
“Council is appreciative of all the hard work and effort that gets put in by local residents who are mostly volunteers in fostering our strong sense of community. We are proud to support these worthy causes.”
Council’s Tourism, Economic Advisory Committee chair, Councillor Matt Brown said this funding was critical to ensuring these events remain on Kiama’s calendar.
“It can be hard to put on festivals and community events in the current economic climate,” he said.
“We are pleased to be able to help them stage these events because they bring a lot of joy to our local residents while also bringing many visitors to our area.”
