The future of Moss Vale’s essential water infrastructure was in the spotlight today, with NSW Minister for Water Rose Jackson joining Wingecarribee Shire Council to inspect progress on the $62 million Moss Vale Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Upgrade.
The upgrade will increase the plant’s treatment capacity by over 100 per cent, providing the capacity needed to support population growth, future housing and economic development opportunities across the region.
Wingecarribee Shire Council invested $37 million and the NSW Government contributed $25 million through the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund to deliver the $62 million project.
Originally upgraded in 1996, the Moss Vale STP is operating at capacity.
The upgrade will increase capacity to 20,000 equivalent people, accommodating forecast residential growth to 2046 and supporting future industrial development opportunities, including the Southern Highlands Innovation Park.
The upgrade will help the facility continue to meet stringent environmental standards, reduce odour impacts, and enhance the protection of Whites Creek and the Wingecarribee River.
Mayor Erin Foley said the project represented a critical investment in the region’s future.
“The Moss Vale Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade is a major investment in our community’s future, delivering the essential infrastructure needed to support growth, protect waterways and provide reliable services for decades to come.
“While wastewater infrastructure often operates behind the scenes, it plays a vital role in supporting new housing, local jobs and future economic opportunities.
“Following the recent completion of the Bowral Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade, this project will help ensure our wastewater network has the capacity to support a growing community for years to come.
Council thanks the NSW Government for its significant investment in this important project.” NSW Minister for Water Rose Jackson said the NSW Government’s $25 million investment will deliver improved environmental outcomes for the Southern
Highlands while supporting future housing.
“The Accelerated Infrastructure Fund will help unlock capacity for around 4,000 new homes in the Moss Vale area to support jobs and strengthen infrastructure for growing regional communities,” Ms Jackson said.
“This project is about planning for growth and delivering the essential infrastructure needed to protect the environment, support more homes and improve livability for current and future residents.”
Construction on the Moss Vale Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade is continuing, with works expected to be completed in May 2027.
