A girl is in serious condition after an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) crash on a private property in the state’s Southern Highlands.
About 2.30pm yesterday (Saturday 28 June 2025), emergency services were called to a private property on Drapers Road, Colo Vale, following reports of a crash.
On arrival, officers attached to The Hume Police District were told a 13-year-old girl had been driving a side-by-side ATV with two passengers – both girls aged 13 and 14 – when it rolled, pinning the driver underneath.
She was freed with assistance from the State Emergency Service before she was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and airlifted to Westmead Childrens Hospital with serious leg injuries.
She remains in a stable condition.
The passengers were uninjured in the crash.
Police have commenced an investigation into circumstances surrounding the incident, however, no charges are expected to be laid.
The Hume Police District’s Inspector Nick Wiles would like to remind the public of the safety risks associated with ATVs.
“ATVs are far more likely to roll and crash due to their instability, and lack safety features you would expect to find in a car.
“Combining these vehicles with young and inexperienced drivers is a recipe for disaster. At all times, please ensure strict supervision, training and safe practices around ATVs and motorcycles on your private properties,” Inspector Wiles said.
