Alleged drunk driver charged after citizen’s arrest

About 6pm on Friday 26 December 2025, police were contacted by members of the public who sighted a van allegedly driving dangerously southbound on the Princes Highway, Nowra.

The car pulled over in the emergency lane, on the Princes Highway, about 100 metres north of Hawken Road, Tomerong, prompted by a member of the public to stop. A man attempted a citizens arrest.

Police were contacted and a short time later, officers attached to South Coast Police District attended.

Officers spoke to the 43-year-old male driver and tried to subject him to a roadside breath test which he allegedly declined.

He was arrested and taken to Bay and Basin Police Station, where he allegedly refused breath analysis tests and drug tests.

He was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, refuse or fail to submit to breath test, refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis and two counts of refuse or fail to submit to oral fluid test.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday 20 January 2026
