Shoalhaven Council Chambers is a no go zone following the discovery of asbestos.
A Shoalhaven Council spokesperson said, “An inspection of the Council Chambers on Friday afternoon identified asbestos in a very old concrete pipe located within a ventilation shaft underneath the Chambers at the Bridge Road Administration Building in Nowra.”
“The Chambers and the Administration Building were closed to staff over the long weekend as a precautionary measure as a qualified hygienist assessed the affected area.
“The Administration Building has been given clearance to be reoccupied, while Council Chambers will remain closed in the short term to allow for the replacement of an asbestos pipe located underneath the Chambers.”
All Council meetings will be relocated to the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre while works are undertaken.
