Tourists heading to some of Shoalhaven’s most popular beaches could be in for a nasty surprise, as the council considers introducing parking fees.
If approved, the plan will only apply to non-residents, although there are concerns the charges could prompt visitors to park in neighbouring streets – potentially affecting the use of nearby attractions.
Regions affected would include Huskisson, Mollymook, Hyams Beach and Berry.
Before council can implement the scheme, an additional investigation will be carried out before a further report is brought back for consideration.
The council says the estimated cost to undertake the required studies and development of the business case is $150,000.
That figure is currently unfunded in the 2026-27 budget.
Some sites would also require upgrades such as pavement works, sealing, line marking, bay delineation and new signage, before paid parking could be introduced.
The investigation into the proposal will be discussed at the upcoming council meeting on September 22.
