Critical incident following pursuit and crash

A critical incident investigation is underway following a pursuit and crash on the South Coast.

About 11.30pm yesterday (Thursday 5 February 2026), police were patrolling the Nowra area, when they located an unregistered Kia sedan driving on Greenwell Point Road.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District directed the driver to stop; however, when they failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

About 12.20am today (Friday 6 February 2026), police located the Kia driving on Victoria Parade, in Terara.

Police again directed the driver to stop; however, they allegedly failed to do so and a second pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit ended on Milbank Road, after the Kia crashed into a tree trapping the driver.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the driver, a 32-year-old man, for serious leg injuries before airlifting him to St George Hospital.

A crime scene has been established and a Critical Incident Team from Lake Illawarra Police District will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
