Shoalhaven Council has offered deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the families, friends, and all those affected by two devastating drownings off our beaches in recent days.
Mayor Patricia White said, “These consecutive tragedies are a heartbreaking reminder of the powerful and unpredictable nature of our beautiful coastline. While we are blessed with stunning natural assets, they demand our utmost respect and caution.

As we enter a period of increased water-based recreation, I urge every resident and visitor to prioritise safety above all else.”
- Always swim at patrolled beaches between the red and yellow flags.
- Check conditions before you enter the water. Be aware of rips, waves, and currents.
- Never swim alone.
- Supervise children at all times around water – keep them within arm’s reach.
- Avoid alcohol and drugs around water.
- Wear a life jacket when boating, rock fishing, or using watercraft.
- If you get into trouble, stay calm, float, and raise an arm to signal for help.
Mayor White said, “We must all take personal responsibility for our safety and the safety of those in our care. Please, take a moment to discuss water safety with your loved ones.
“I also wish to extend our community’s immense gratitude and respect to our first responders – our Surf Life Savers, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance paramedics, and volunteer emergency services personnel. In the face of these traumatic events, they respond with professionalism, courage, and compassion. We are acutely aware that they are repeatedly exposed to these tragedies while working to protect us. We thank them for their unwavering service and dedication to our community,” she said.
