Fatal crash driver charged

A man will appear in Court after being charged following a fatal crash in Sydney’s south west.

About 8pm Thursday 8 January 2026, emergency services responded to reports of a crash on Appin Road, Appin.

Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command attended and found two vehicles had collided.

The driver of a Toyota Hilux utility, a 22-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital under police guard for mandatory testing.

The four occupants of a Mazda sedan were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics with the driver, a 46-year-old man taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

A 30-year-old woman was also taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old girl died at the scene.

A 12-year-old boy received minor injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital.

The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Following inquiries, the 22-year-old man was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he charged with 14 offences –

  • aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death – speed more than 45km/h,
  • aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – speed more than 45km/h (two counts),
  • dangerous driving occasioning death – drive speed dangerous,
  • dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous,
  • dangerous driving occasioning grievious bodily harm – drive speed dangerous (two counts),
  • dangerous driving occasioning grievious bodily harm – drive manner dangerous (two counts),
  • neglgigent driving occasioning death,
  • negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm,
  • cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle,
  • drive vehicle under influence of alcohol, and
  • drive motor vehicle – menances another with intent.
