Residents in the broader St Georges Basin, Sussex Inlet and Lower Shoalhaven River areas are invited to provide feedback about which measures they would like to see implemented to manage flood risk in their communities.

Council has developed Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plans (FRMSP) for the St Georges Basin and Lower Shoalhaven River, which recommend a variety of strategies to reduce the risk of flooding to properties and assets on public and private land.

Mayor Patricia White said the FRMSPs also aim to improve the response to future flooding events within the catchment areas.

“The Floodplain Risk Management Study for each of the catchments and the effectiveness of a range of flood management strategies and weighed up their financial, practical and environmental feasibility,” said Mayor Patricia White.

“We’re now asking residents to provide feedback on which of the recommended strategies they would like to see included in the final plan for implementation in their communities,” Cr White said.

“This is a really important opportunity for residents to provide meaningful input and help shape Council’s decision on how to reduce the impact of flooding and flood-liability on landowners in these areas,” she said.

“I strongly encourage these communities to ensure their voices are heard on this critical issue,” she said.

The community may view the St Georges Basin and Lower Shoalhaven River Floodplain Risk Management Studies and Plans via Council’s Get Involved websites (linked below) and provide feedback by Sunday 15 March.
