Kiama Municipal Council has made a change to the delivery of Stage 2 of the Gerry Emery Reserve clubhouse redevelopment.
The Federal Government funded the project for $840,000 and Kiama Council was appointed to deliver the upgrade to the existing clubhouse, which is located on Council-managed community land.
“We are very grateful for the Federal Government funding provided by our local member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, and the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development,” Kiama Council CEO Jane Stroud said.
“It is imperative for Kiama Council to meet the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993 and the conditions of the Major and Local Community Infrastructure Program grant funding agreement.
“We will of course make sure Gerringong District All Sports Inc (GDASI) are kept involved as part of the project steering committee.
“I personally made that promise to the representatives of the GDASI committee in November last year and intend to keep to that.”
The next meeting with the GDASI will be held in the week starting 13 April.
Ms Stroud said this is a Council-led project and staff have been made aware that previous work has been undertaken that was not authorised.
Council staff have therefore taken possession of the site after issuing a Notice to Stop All Work to GDASI.
All relevant parties have been informed about this change and Council looks forward to continuing a constructive working relationship with the cricket, soccer and touch football sporting organisations who are represented by GDASI and will benefit from the project being delivered at Gerry Emery Reserve.
Ms Phillips and State Member for Kiama Katelin McInerney have been made aware of the latest developments.
