Motorists will soon receive real time alerts when driving south on the Princes Highway past Nowra with the installation of a new electronic sign to begin next week.
Transport for NSW Executive Director, Partnerships and Integration South, Cassandra Ffrench said a new permanent variable message sign (VMS) will provide real time information to road users travelling south on the highway to alert them of potential impacts on the road network.
“The sign is being installed above the southbound lanes on the Princes Highway south of Nowra at the Comberton Grange Road intersection,” Ms Ffrench said.
“The overhead sign will convey important messages around road safety, network status and hazards such as road work and natural disasters.
“This location was chosen due to its proximity to key Princes Highway upgrade projects, including the Jervis Bay Road intersection upgrade which is currently in construction.”
Electronic message signs are updated remotely by the Traffic Management Centre to allow messages to be quickly relayed to road users as they enter an area.
Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday from Tuesday 3 February, and will be completed in stages over 14 weeks, weather permitting.
During work, traffic control, a reduced speed limit of 60 km/h and intermittent lane closures and stoppages outside of peak times will be in place for the safety of road users and workers.
Motorists are advised to allow up to five minutes’ additional travel time, drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
