Regional Development Australia Illawarra Shoalhaven (RDAIS) has announced the
appointment of its new Chair, Adam Zarth, following the departure of Mark McKenzie.

In May this year, Mr McKenzie announced his resignation to pursue an exciting new professional opportunity, relocating to Queensland. During his time, Mr McKenzie steered the organisation into a new era as it transitioned from RDA Illawarra to RDA Illawarra Shoalhaven. This transition marked a significant expansion of the organisation’s geographical, economic, industry and social footprint and laid the foundation for a new strategic direction under a refreshed Board and Executive.

The incoming Chair, Adam Zarth, brings a deep knowledge and understanding of the region’s fabric and priorities, coupled with a strong reputation as a respected advocate, having served for six years as the Executive Director of Business Illawarra.

Currently the Managing Partner of Public Affairs at Sodali & Co, Mr Zarth’s proven track record in grounded, place-based advocacy is well known in the region, having successfully led advocacy for major road and rail projects, as well as housing for key workers and renewable energy.

“I am honoured to step into the role of Chair at such a critical time for the region,” Mr Zarth said.

“To carry on the great work of Mark McKenzie and the current Board is an exciting step for the organisation as it continues to harness the opportunities ahead,”
“On a personal level, it’s very exciting to be able to return to the region and work alongside our talented Board, staff and regional partners to deliver meaningful, place-based outcomes. Mr Zarth said.

Mr Zarth was appointed through a selection process administered by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts and ratified by Minister McBain, Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories and Minister for Emergency Management.

RDAIS Deputy Chair, Nicky Sloan, said the appointment is welcome news for the region, organisation and Board.
