Kiama Council is considering the re-zoning of two hectares of Council-owned land from industrial to residential. This is a critical opportunity to address the housing affordability crisis facing Kiama.
The Greens are calling on Planning Minister Paul Scully and the NSW Government to work with Kiama Council to ensure this land remains in public hands and delivers social housing. If the land is sold and developed privately, the Greens are calling for a binding agreement that at least 30% of new dwellings are affordable housing in perpetuity.
Greens MP and Planning spokesperson Sue Higginson, together with Greens Candidate for Kiama Tonia Gray, will present the Greens’ plan for affordable housing in Kiama.
Greens MP Sue Higginson said, “This is a brilliant opportunity for the NSW Government to work with Kiama Council and support the delivery of desperately needed homes for Kiama, particularly public, social and affordable homes,”
The plan draws on local housing needs, data from Shelter NSW, and the Greens’ commitment to 100,000 new public, social and affordable homes across NSW.

Greens Candidate for Kiama, Tonia Gray said “Voting for the Greens is a powerful sign to the Government that our evidence based and community focussed policies are supported. The policies that the Greens are talking about today become the policies that Governments pursue in 10 years time, so why not get on board and seize this opportunity now,”
