Christmas Travel advice

Traditionally today is one of the busiest days of the year on Shoalhaven roads, as people finish work for the year and head off to visit family and friends for Christmas.  

It might be the silly season, but Transport for NSW wants motorists to be smart. Travel outside of peak times, if it’s raining slow down and drive to conditions, plan your journey and most importantly drive safely.

For motorists heading south, expect the heaviest traffic along the Princes Highway at Nowra, building from midday with the longest delays around 2pm. Jervis Bay, Milton and Ulladulla are also known pinch points.

Motorists are encouraged to check Transport for NSW journey planning tool at myjourneynsw.info so you know when the best time to hit the road will be.  

As of midnight 20 December 2023, 350 people have lost their lives on our roads.

This is 80 more than this time last year.  

Speeding is the biggest contributor to crashes on NSW roads and contributes to around 40 per cent of road fatalities and 24 per cent of serious injuries, that’s around 125 deaths and more than 1,050 serious injuries each year on NSW roads.
