Debris burn-off at Shoalhaven Heads

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is assisting Council with excess debris that has built up over successive weather events at Shoalhaven Heads.

Branches and wooden logs have accumulated along the main foreshore, boat ramp and Carters Corner riverbank, causing access issues for the local community.

Mayor Patricia White said the RFS would carefully plan and closely monitor the burn to ensure it stayed within the planned boundary.

“The build-up of debris along the foreshore has become a hazard and we’re grateful to the RFS for helping us with a solution to this issue,” Cr White said.

“With tonnes of wood having washed up in the area, a controlled burn is the logical solution to making this area more accessible for locals,” she said.

“While the RFS always aim to minimise smoke impact, locals should expect to see and smell some smoke on the day and prepare by closing windows and doors.”
