Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has announced a major grant for the Kiama Men’s Shed.
The funding was secured by Mr Ward through the NSW Government Community Building Partnerships grant program.
“As the local MP, I have worked alongside Kiama Men’s shed for many years. I was delighted to work for them in assisting them to secure their current location and I’m pleased we’ve been able to secure yet another investment that supports seniors in the Kiama community,” Mr Ward said.
“The grant will help purchase dementia signage, purchase much needed new equipment and install a new shade sail which will allow mental work to be done both inside and outside of the shed.
“Men’s sheds aren’t just great places for men to congregate and use their skills, they also support men’s mental health. I am a strong supporter of men’s sheds across our community and I am so pleased we could secure a further grant for the Kiama Men’s shed.
“These are not costs to government, they are investments in our local community.
“I take this opportunity to thank all the people who signed our community petition when we were campaigning for these funds.
Ian Yabsley from the Kiama Men’s Shed welcomed the grant funding.
‘’The Kiama Men’s Shed would like to thank Mr Ward for his support of our grant under the Community Building Partnership program,’’ Mr Yabsley said.
‘’The grant will allow the Kiama Men’s Shed to have extra outside workspace under a shade sail, extend our metal working activities and to bring more technologies to the men’s shred through a CMC machine and 3D printer.
We will also be putting up extra signage to support members who have dementia.
“Mr Ward has been a huge supporter of our shed including all our members and we are appreciative of his efforts,” Mr Yabsley concluded.
