Earlier this year Shoalhaven Councillor Serena Copley moved a notice of motion to call on the NSW State Government to raise the pensioner concession rate rebate.
“Currently a $250 pensioner concession rebate is available to subsidise local rates. Clr Copley said this rebate has not increased in 13 years despite significant increases in rates and charges over that period.”
“It is time that the NSW Government addressed the inadequate level of financial support available to pensioners,” Clr Copley said.
“With significant cost of living challenges facing our local community, it is essential that the NSW Government do all they can to assist, and it is time for a significant increase in the pensioner concession rebate,” she said.
I am really pleased to see that my motion was selected by Shoalhaven City Council to move at the recent Australian Local Government Association 2024 National General Assembly held in Canberra on 2 to 4 July, and that motion number 120 was passed.
This issue is above politics, and it is great news to see that the delegates attending ALGA agreed with me. I sincerely hope this additional advocacy will see some changes made to assist pensioners, veterans and low income earners.
