Mulloway harvest strategy extended

Public consultation for the draft NSW Mulloway Harvest Strategy has been extended for an additional month to allow further time for all stakeholders to have their say on proposed management arrangements to secure the future of Mulloway in NSW.

A spokesperson for the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) said the department is providing more time for stakeholders to provide considered feedback, following the high level of interest and engagement in the consultation process so far.

“Mulloway is a prized species in NSW for recreational, commercial and cultural fishers.  It’s important all community members have the chance to submit their feedback on the draft Mulloway Harvest Strategy” said a DPIRD spokesperson.

“The future of Mulloway in NSW is a shared responsibility and this additional month will ensure the views and experiences of fishers are heard and reflected in the finalised harvest strategy.

“It is no secret that fishers are passionate about this iconic species and care deeply about the health of our fish stocks.

“The Department is committed to ensuring all fishers have the opportunity to have their say on the harvest strategy and management approach to support the continued and effective rebuilding of Mulloway stocks to a better future.

“We appreciate the feedback we have received so far and are looking forward to more fishers providing their thoughts on the best way to ensure a sustainable future for Mulloway.

“The submissions received to date have been constructive, with an evident desire to support sensible management measures for the species.

“The Department encourages everyone to consider the draft NSW Mulloway Harvest Strategy and management options and provide your feedback through the online form by 25 June 2025”.

The draft NSW Mulloway Harvest Strategy has been developed by an expert stakeholder working group and reviewed by the commercial and recreational fishing advisory councils.

All feedback will be considered by the NSW Mulloway Harvest Strategy Working Group and the Department to finalise the harvest strategy and management framework.

The public have until 25 June 2025 to provide their feedback on the draft NSW Mulloway Harvest Strategy and management options at Draft NSW Mulloway Harvest Strategy and management options.
