High profile Shoalhaven Liberal, former Shoalhaven Councillor Paul Ell won’t contest the state seat of Kiama, to replace former MP Gareth Ward.
Mr Ell confirmed, he was asked if he would consider standing for election should there be a vacancy in the state electorate of Kiama.
He said, “The events of last week have confirmed that a by-election for Kiama will take place imminently. I note that the NSW Liberal Party has decided to open nominations for preselection.
“While I do appreciate the strong encouragement from members of our community, I have decided that I will not be nominating to be the Liberal candidate,” he said.
Mr Ell said, “This decision has been made after careful consideration and consultation with my family and close friends.
“I am deeply appreciative and humbled by the support I have received. I certainly do hope that there will be another opportunity for me to stand for elected office in the future, however, now is not that time.”
“I wish all the best to those who are intending to nominate for this election. I look forward to seeing a strong and effective MP elected to represent and advocate for the people of Kiama,” Mr Ell concluded.
