Pneumococcal vaccination

An updated vaccine to help protect infants and young children on THE SOUTH COAST from pneumococcal disease is being listed on the National Immunisation Program.

More than 2,300 cases of invasive pneumococcal disease were reported in Australia in 2024, marking a 20-year high. Around 1 in 4 cases were in people aged 19 years or under.

Paediatrician and Researcher, Doctor Rama Kandasamy, said the rise in cases highlights the need to protect LOCAL CHILDREN against new types of the disease.

Bruce Langoulant from Meningitis Centre Australia said it’s a timely reminder for LOCAL PARENTS to learn about the disease and understand the warning signs.
